Shogo : Mobile Armor Division  by Monolith Productions

Review by
Vajra Chandrasekera and Chamila Sumanasekera

December  14, 1998

Introduction

Not so long ago, the first person shooter game genre was as good as dead. Gamers were tired of inflexible, tiresomely gruesome games that involved nothing more intellectually taxing than pressing colored buttons. We had grown weary of waiting for the next revolution, for the next great leap forward.

And it would appear that the revolution has finally come. Shogo: Mobile Armored Division is not the final product of a dying genre, but one of the first games to follow the renaissance in first person gaming. Monolith Productions, a newcomer to the action game field, have decisively entered the new generation of 3D action gaming with this game and perhaps we should treat this as a harbinger of things to come.
