SIN by Activision and Ritual Entertainment

Review by

Introduction

For some reason, my sixth sense tells me that we are unlikely to see a game called VIRTUE on the market in the near future. As its name suggests, SIN is a vicarious, on-the-edge experience, a game that packs a punch unlike anything we've seen before. Superficially, of course, it looks the same. Wander about, blow up enemies, ho hum. Take a closer look and you'll notice some odd things- completing a level no longer means finding a colored button and pressing it. You're actually expected to interact with your virtual environment, to make it yield what information you need. Activision and Ritual Entertainment's SIN is one of a new generation of first-person games in that it actually includes
a real plot and a coherent storyline, as opposed to an incoherent one tacked on as an afterthought to justify killing everybody. The graphics and interactive simulated intelligence are enough to reduce a jaded gamer to tears- this may still be a little early for heaven, but it sure is a leap in the right direction.

Whether you're a first-person shoot-em-up game fanatic in the classical mode or just play this kind
of game after a bad day to blow things up and let off steam, this game -based on the popular
Quake II OpenGL engine- delivers on the hype. This is not your average shoot-em-up game,
though, and not for the faint of heart. SIN is demented and dark, with a certain twisted sense of humor. As Ogden Nash said, "the only people who should really sin are the people who can sin
with a grin."
