Installation
When you get your hands on one of these new systems,
and open the packing, you’ll see, with the
thrill of discovery that always accompanies such
moments, some rather weird looking stands and the nice, white, compact
satellites at the bottom, with the subwoofer. Long white wires are also
packed in to complete the package. From the unpacking process to the installation
everything goes on smoothly. The speaker connection procedure was relatively
simple, the color-coded wires which connect the sound card to the subwoofer
is also a helpful feature.
The manual has some placement examples and general
information and the specs regarding the speakers. The whole process didn't
take more than 15 minutes to set up everything.

For users with limited space, the
front two satellites can be either placed beside the monitor or they can
be mounted on to the monitor with the supplied Velcro kits. Since all 4
satellites are magnetically shielded, the user need not worry about magnetic
interference with the monitor. But to get a true surround sound effect,
I recommend they be placed at least 4 feet apart from each other. The rear
satellites have to be placed at a fair distance from the front speakers
(at least five feet). And remember to keep a fair distance between them
to get the maximum effect from both rear channels. |
Of course you can always go with the examples
on the manual for speaker placement but remember they have been specified
for users with very limited space. So, if you have decent real estate in
your room, you might want to consider using it to maximum effect.
If you're skeptical about the durability of the
wimpy looking stands, well you’re definitely not the first. But hey, you’re
not planning to play ball with it, right? If space is limited or if you
are a person who prefers to camouflage your speakers, their sheer compact
size will make your job an easy one. The subwoofer can be placed anywhere,
either on your table or below it. Below your table may be the better
option, so that it doesn't take up space and will produce a better bass
response, but this will depend on the specific location. This is where
the in-line volume control comes into use. If you can't
be bothered to reach out or bend over every time
to adjust the volume, then hook up this gadget and place it on your table.
It's quite small and doesn't take up a lot of space.
What we have mentioned here is just one
possible way to place speakers to get the surround sound effect. But you
could always experiment with different speaker settings according to your
room acoustics and choose the one that gives you the best sound. You needn't
worry about wiring, since there are a couple of 9-foot wires for the front
connections and a couple of 12-foot wires for the rear speaker connections,
so go ahead and take them all over the room. |
