What
we looked for in the cards
Before
we go any further, I’d like to talk about the features that we looked for
in the different cards. Since all the cards feature the same graphics controller
and the same amount of onboard video RAM, we had to make a different scoring
system.
First,
we took performance as the biggest scoring point, which is really important
and is one of the major points that a buyer thinks about –well, should
think about, anyway- when making a choice.
Second,
we favored cards that had important features in hardware or software, such
as video input, output, tweaking and overclocking through software.
Third,
we had to consider the price of each card for our decision. We also took
into account mail-in rebates and the average retail price of each card
rather than the manufacturers list price, which is generally higher than
the average retail price.
Lastly,
we looked into driver support and documentation, which would determine
if installation is as easy and trouble free as possible. We also took into
account the level of support provided by each manufacturer for their Ultra
TNT2 cards through their own websites.
So
these are the four major areas that we took into consideration when testing
and evaluating the five Ultra TNT2 cards. Our final decisions are based
on how well each card ranked in each of these categories.
