Introduction

Internet-targeted digital cameras are not exactly a new thing. But until quite recently they required you to install an ISA/PCI card or use the printer port on your computer. Both of these can be quite a hassle. The answer lies in USB technology. USB, if you don't know, is an acronym for "Universal Serial Bus" and it means exactly that, it is a connector that can be used to hook up a whole host of devices to a PC.

Contrast this with the RS-232-C (where your modem goes), parallel (mostly for printers) and PS/2 ports, which tend to be for pretty specific purposes. Let me tell you right now that, as long as you're not looking at video editing or professional conferencing, then you should go for a USB camera. Let's take a specific look at the WebCam III.
