Real Audio G2 - Normal Quality Level

Real Networks has been the leader in streaming audio and video for quite some time. This heritage seems to make itself felt in this compressor as well. The emphasis is on small file sizes and not on quality. Also now that Real Networks has acquired Xing Technologies they will probably use Xing based technology for the higher end of the quality spectrum. Considering all this I have not rated this encoding scheme but merely include it for comparison purposes. That said, I expected it to hold out against at least TwinVQ (similar file sizes) but it fails to do this.   Screenshot of Real Networks G2 Toolkit

Observations

Applaud

Hardly resembles the original with a very tiny sound.
Castanets

Spreads all the highs into a hissing sound.
Else

Shows a less pronounced version of what happens above. But overall indicates a marked improvement when encoding music as opposed to single instruments and other sounds.

This just won't do for our purposes. Even for streaming audio alone it seems to lack quality. The only real strength I see is when doing video clips with sound where the audio quality drop is acceptable.
